Nursing resumes face a unique parsing challenge: they're heavy with clinical abbreviations, certifications, and unit-specific terminology that ATS systems may not recognize if formatted incorrectly. A resume that reads perfectly to a fellow nurse can score poorly in an ATS because licensure details are embedded in tables, or certifications are listed using only acronyms the system doesn't map to the job posting.

Healthcare ATS systems scan for credentials, clinical skills, and compliance terminology. Make sure your resume includes these high-priority keywords matched to your specialty:

Using nursing-specific jargon without standard terms. If your unit calls it "med-surg," make sure you also write "Medical-Surgical Nursing" somewhere on the resume. ATS systems may not recognize informal shorthand.
